Alongside the brands that we offer in the shop, we also manufacture our own frames - one at a time in our small but perfectly formed workshop

Matt B makes all our frames, working primarily in steel. We offer both TIG welded and fillet brazed frames, whether that be road, mountain, cyclocross or some more unusual one-off projects!

This year we're excited to be launching our own range of frame building tools and Jigs, bicycle sizing and fitting courses for frame builders, along with other brand new frame building and skills courses too.

Coppice Woodland poles are young tree stems. After the pole is harvested, the stump sprouts another batch of stems making our material supply truly sustainable. When debarked, dried and hollowed, these poles have structural properties of strength and stiffness comparable with materials with a far higher embodied energy such as metals and composites. These poles are made into high performance bicycles with a unique natural beauty and feel.

Coppice management of woodland is acknowledged as being excellent for sustaining wildlife diversity.

Beaumont Cycles

My Vision: To deliver a made-to-measure handbuilt lightweight bicycle that suits the rider physically with thought given to where it will be ridden and the purpose for riding.  I design around the step-through principle or the traditional diamond form.  I also consider easy maintenance and practical accessories to make your Beaumont Bicycle a pleasure to own.

My Values:  My experience from working as bicycle mechanic and an occupational therapist over the last 30 years has given me a unique skill set.  I understand how an improved sense of well being comes from matching fit, form, function with a consideration for our environment and how things are made.

Bike Science

Bike Science was established in March 2010 by Andy Sexton. Andy has over twenty five years of competitive biking experience and over twenty years as a triathlete. While working at Planet X he identified the need to be able to offer accurate, professional bike fitting services to riders wishing to buy bikes without being able to try the actual bike for size first and riders wishing to optimise their riding position to increase performance, avoid injury or improve comfort. He started Bike Science with these aims in mind.

Boneshaker is a beautiful, story-driven publication celebrating the exciting things that happen when people and bikes come together. We're about freedom, friendship and adventure - the human side of cycling. No training tips or race diets here. It's not how much your bike weighs that matters, but where it takes you. It's not how fast you got there, but what you saw along the way.

Butterfield bikes

Butterfield Bicycles is a friendly, family owned bicycle shop offering sales, repairs, and bespoke, hand built steel frames.

Each of our frames is hand made to the owner’s exact requirements using Reynolds or Columbus tubing. Lugged frames are silver soldered which, although more expensive , uses less heat and is better for the tubes. Lugless joints are bronze welded.

From my workshop in Bristol, I make beautiful and functional bike components from steel. My work has featured on everything from award-winning show bikes to everyday commuters and courier bikes. I specialise in making fully custom fillet brazed racks and stems. I particularly focus on building porteur racks, as they exemplify everything I want bikes to be: strong, utilitarian, and fun.

Coast Cycles

Hand Built, Silver Brazed, Quality Frames.   Beautiful, classic, true to the process.

In a sometimes pre-fab, one-size-fits-all, disposable culture, what I find myself most interested in building are quality frames that will last your lifetime, using the same techniques that master builders of high end bicycles have used for ages. Because I build each frame, one at a time in my own shop, I am able to take my time with each step of the process, and put true skill and craftsmanship into every hand-built silver-brazed frame.

The story of the most famous steel tubes in the history of cycling began in 1919 when A.L. Colombo founded his steel plant with the ambition to “to do business in iron and steel and make a fair and honest profit,”. The result was the history of cycling as we know it: legendary tube sets AIR, MAX (first tube-set to break the tradition of conventional diameters and introduce concept of orientated ellipses and differentiated sections), SL, SLX, NIVACROM (EL and Genius), Altec, Starship and Spirit right up to the most 2009’s XCR, the world’s first ever tubeless stainless steel tube set which allows for the production of a steel frame competitive (and out-performing in some categories) at the highest level of the sport on all levels: weight (sub-1400g), rigidity, fatigue resistance and of course the remarkably superior handling of steel.
