1. Do you remember your first bike?

I have quite a bad memory but I think it was called a Pippin or something. I also think it was pink (but not in a Giro way).

2. How did you get into Framebuilding?

I have always been into making things. I studied a degree in sculpture, worked in a bike shop and cycled a lot. It took me a while to realise that people actually still made bike frames in this country and a little bit longer to realise that I could combine all these passions into one. I started tinkering in a workshop by myself before sharing spaces with first Oak Cycles and then Saffron Frameworks, who helped me a lot in those early stages.

3. How would you define your style as a framebuilder?

Every bike is different but these themes run through a lot of my bikes: Subtle detailing; a mix of the classic and contemporary; an end result that is something between understated and full bling

4. Who or what has inspired you along the way?

I know a lot of people who make things for a living. It’s not an easy route and they all work very hard so it’s inspiring to be round these people. I’m keen to keep my style individual so I try not to look too much at other framebuilders for aesthetic inspiration.

5. What can we expect to see from you at Bespoked 2016?

I am teaming up with Owen Wheels, who will show off his custom built wheels alongside my bikes. There will be a fast Reynolds 953 race bike and a long distance Columbus Xcr machine. The latter will be used on the 2017 transcontinental race but some people might call it a ‘gravel bike’. I might well bring a fixie too.

6. Where is your favourite place to ride?

I have a loop from my workshop in South London that takes me out into the Surrey hills and back. I have ridden in far more spectacular scenery but I can do this ride on a weekday evening and it takes me from the city into proper, beautiful countryside. I always feel amazing during and for a long time after it!

7. If you weren’t building bikes for a living what would you be?

Still wondering what else to do but it’d be something creative.
